Summer Learning Programs

The City of Providence and the Providence Public School District have partnered with these organizations to support students in achieving academic success and social-emotional growth through full-day programming and hands-on learning experiences with a youth development focus! Additional opportunities offered by Providence Public Schools can be found HERE

Please note that the grade levels refer to your child’s grade in the upcoming 2022-23 school year. For example, Generation Teach, Grades 6 – 8 is for students who are currently in 5th, 6th, and 7th grade.

FULLY ENROLLED – Inspiring Minds, Incoming Kindergarteners:

The KidsBridge Summer Learning Program provides rising kindergartners who have not yet had a high-quality early learning experience with a six-week full-day program, to help them learn the norms and routines of school. The program will be offered free of charge to students who are registered for Kindergarten in Providence Public Schools for the upcoming school year. KidsBridge participants attend school for six hours per day, five days per week, and adjust to the routines and procedures of kindergarten to help them transition into school. The program is fun and engaging and children learn through play! Parents/family members are also supported through ongoing parent engagement events and workshops.

KidsBridge programming runs from July 11, 2022-August 19, 2022.  The program is held at two locations: Robert L. Bailey Elementary School or Alfred Lima Elementary School. For more information, families can click here. This program is now fully enrolled.

FULLY ENROLLED – Boys and Girls Club, Grades K-6:

The Boys and Girls Club of Providence uses the BellXcel curriculum to provide a summer program that is a full–day learning experience. The BellXcel curriculum combines academic instruction with fun and hands-on enrichment activities, field trips, and service projects, all designed to youth gain new academic skills and excel in school in the fall.

The program runs from July 11 – August 19. This program is now fully enrolled.

The YMCA of Greater Providence, Grades K-5:

The YMCA of Greater Providence will be running a 6-week summer learning program, running from July 5 to August 13, Monday through Friday 8am – 4:30pm. Students will be learning and growing with the support of the YMCA staff and Providence Public School teachers. The program will feature enrichment programs in the afternoon, family engagements on Thursdays, and weekly field trips on Fridays.

Camps are for Providence Public School students in entering grades 1 through 5 in the fall of 2022, and held at Robert L. Bailey Elementary School. Enrollment will open on May 6th. For more details, please call (401) 456-0604.

FULLY ENROLLED – Sylvan Learning Center, Grades 1 – 6:

Ace it!, powered by Sylvan Learning Center, is a free summer program at Young Woods Elementary School.  The program consists of engaging and enriching reading, writing, math and STEM activities to reinforce key skills and keep students on track for the coming school year. Our positive and motivating learning environment and small group sizes of 8-10 children ensure that every student gets the 1-on-1 attention they need. Three out of four Ace It! students make major improvements in reading or math during the summer.

The six-week program begins July 11, 2022 and runs Monday through Friday from 9AM-3PM through August 19. Call 401-334-9309 for more information. This program is now fully enrolled.

FULLY ENROLLED – Generation Teach, Grades 6 – 8:

The Generation Teach STEAM Academy provides exciting classes, summer fun, and caring teachers at no cost. Based in Nathan Bishop Middle School, students will develop math, reading, and writing skills as well as the academic background knowledge critical to success in middle and high school. Arts, sports, games, competitions, field trips, and elective classes such as engineering, coding, and law make sure all students have fun throughout the summer. 97% of families recommend GT STEAM Academy to other families.

Center for Dynamic Learning Teen Apprenticeship Program, Grades 9-12:

The Center for Dynamic Learning Teen Apprenticeship Program (TAP) provides high school students with a dynamic learning experience, providing a laboratory-style classroom for simulated work-related experiences and real-life on-site practical experience. Students can earn valuable certifications and college credits over the course of the summer, while exploring career fields of design, construction, manufacturing, and engineering. In 2021, students engaged in community building projects which included upcycling containers into a Tiny House and Mental Health Wellness Center.

College Visions Summer Prep Program, Grades 9-12:

College Visions is offering a free, 6-week in-person program that is open to Providence Public High School students (Grades 9-12).  Students who participate in this program must live in Providence and will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about the college admissions process
  • Explore future career options
  • Build their skills in a fun high-energy process and more
  • Participants will earn up to $600
